April 12, 2012   MAL  Z. LAWRENCE

Mal Z. Lawrence starred in the hit show Catskills on Broadway, where he had audiences literally loosening their collars, gasping for breath between laughs, and begging for mercy before his next comedic course was delivered. Widely known as a “tumult-maker,” Mal Z has sustained a career spanning over 30 years entertaining audiences in Las Vegas, Atlantic City and the Catskill Mountains.

In 1966, he hit the big time with an engagement at the world-famous Copacabana. That’s when he changed to Mal Z. The performer says, “It gave me more space on the marquee and I swear, from there, things took off.” Mal Z began appearing on The Merv Griffin Show, The Mike Douglas Show, and The Tonight Show.

In 1975, Mal Z was signed to all the hotels in the Howard Hughes chain in Las Vegas and was also booked into Atlantic City as an opening act for such performers as Wayne Newton, Ray Charles, and Paul Anka, among others, all the while using the material he gathered and wrote in the Catskills as his bread and butter.

He now plays Atlantic City regularly where he has co-headlined at the Trump Plaza.

March 13, 2012     TONY ORLANDO

No entertainer can move and excite an audience like Tony Orlando. From million-selling records (five “number one” hits including “Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Ole Oak Tree”), to a popular television variety series, movies and Broadway shows (Barnum and Smokey Joe’s Cafe), Tony Orlando has conquered virtually every facet of show business.

His other hits include “Sweet Gypsy Rose”, “He Don’t Love You”, “Who’s In The Strawberry Patch With Sally”, “Cupid”, “Steppin’ Out (Gonna Boogie Tonight)” and “Mornin’ Beautiful”.

Tony has performed for five presidents and has been a recipient of three American Music Awards and a People’s Choice Award. And for outstanding achievements to the entertainment industry, Tony was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1990.

Tony Orlando has written and produced musical productions to critical acclaim. In 1998 he created and starred in the show Jukebox Dreams where he took the audience on a doo-wop serenade showing the power of one man’s dreams. This winter, Tony has a special production set to go for the Christmas season entitled Santa & Me.

Today, Tony remains a popular headliner in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Reno, Biloxi and Laughlin.

Charo is a household name, instantly recognizable for her witty humor, lovable accent and her mastery of the flamenco guitar. Charo’s trademark expression “Cuchi-Cuchi”, has endeared her to the world and made the name Charo synonymous with fun and excitement.

Since the 70′s, Charo, the musician, singer, comedienne, stage and screen performer, has been an integral proponent of contemporary Latin music. The spotlight on Charo has been shining brighter than ever since her acceptance of the Female Pop Album of the Year Award. She was also twice voted “Best Classical Flamenco Guitarist in the World” from Guitar Player Magazine; winner of a Billboard International Latin Music Award; winner of Screen Actors Guild Award; and winner of the prestigious Golden Eagle Award for Outstanding Entertainment of the Year.

Charo performed to sold-out audiences in her show, “Charo in Concert: A Musical Sensation”, at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Jan. 26, 2012  MARILYN McCOO & BILLY DAVIS, Jr.

Winners of 7 Grammy Awards, 15 gold and 3 platinum records, Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr. have enjoyed tremendous success through the years as recording artists and performers. They have performed to sold-out concerts around the world and are currently celebrating 40 years in the entertainment business with this fabulous musical tribute at Forest Trace.

As lead vocalists of The 5th Dimension, this husband and wife team recorded such classics as “Up, Up and Away,” “Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In,” “Wedding Bell Blues,” “One Less Bell To Answer” and “Stoned Soul Picnic” to name a few.

After a decade with The 5th Dimension, Billy and Marilyn decided to leave the group and establish themselves as a duo.  They had immediate success with the single, “You Don’t Have To Be A Star (To Be In My Show).”   It was a #1 hit and earned them a Grammy for Best R&B Vocal Performance By a Duo or Group.

In 1977, CBS-TV premiered The Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Show as a prime-time summer series. They have headlined in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe and Atlantic City, played to SRO crowds in concerts across the country and won the prestigious Grand Prize at the international Tokyo Music Festival.

Nov. 10, 2011    KAREN SAUNDERS, singer and musician

Many singers have voices that are “instruments”, but Karen has an entire orchestra.  One minute, she could sound like a mellow cello; the next, she’ll explode like a sassy brass section.  Either way, she’s got a voice to beat the band.  At her passionate core, Karen is fired up with emotions but has a delightfully earthy sense of humor.

After opening for Rodney Dangerfield early in her career, Karen began to share the stage with such luminaries as Jay Leno, Robert Klein, Billy Crystal, Rita Rudner, Jackie Mason, David Brenner and Joy Behar. As an accomplished pianist and cellist Karen is a recipient of the MAC (Cabaret’s Oscar), Back Stage Bistro Award, Theatre of Renewal, Critics’ Choice Award and is listed in the International Who’s Who of Musicians.

Besides performing in senior communities in Florida, Karen appears in small intimate clubs such as the Plush Room in San Francisco and Toulouse in Chicago, has been part of the prestigious 92nd Street Y’s Lyrics and Lyricists Series, and has performed at Lincoln Center and at Carnegie Hall with the New York Pops.
